There was a girl. She liked a girl. She wanted to take that girl to a dance. But the school said no. Kevin Bacon tried to help out, but in this version of the story, John Lithgow was way too powerful, and he cancelled the whole dance.

Worse than the school is the parents. The parents that had a real prom, but also thoughtfully created a “fake” prom that they sent Candace too.

It’s absolutely ridiculous. The school should NOT be in the kids’ bizness. They should be allowed to attend the dance, plain and simple. The school should NOT be allowed to say, “HELLO! LEZBOS BAAAD.” The need to keep their noses out of people’s morality.
Oh, and Jane is RIGHT on this one. Pr0n lesbians are NOT normal lesbians. Have you see ACTUAL LESBIANS? My aunt is a lesbian! Trust me when I tell you that you don’t want to watch her and her partner go at it. That’s what normal lesbians look like. Cellulite, pimples, fat, stretch marks. Pr0n lesbians? They have a makeup artist.
Just sayin’.

I should have pushed Jane to explain how she knows about the porn lesbians. Also? D-Goddess? I lived next door to lesbians a few years ago. I’ll just say this – maybe they don’t ALL look hot, but some do. And I would’ve mowed my neighbors’ lawn for a year if they let me watch them just one time. But they were also a ton of fun and we used to hang out regularly.
Also – porn lesbians go out and have lesbian sex in their off hours, too. Follow them on Twitter. You’ll see.
Like water seeking its lowest level…I’m pretty sure there are lots of other issues at play here than different species of lesbians!

I didn’t think our views were that different in this – I said the school had no business having an opinion. You said “Me, too! And the parents suck, too!”
Her face was splashed all over popular media, as you said, Jane. How do you think that happened? You think the school wanted to draw attention to itself for this? Proooooobably nooooooot. Most likely? The student or her parents called every media outlet they could think of. So any pity for the girl for having to “endure” the media coverage is, at best, misguided. She was able to further her cause and further her own interests (financial and otherwise) for inviting the media coverage.
And again, I don’t fault her for that. She should totally make hay while the sun is shining.
Just don’t wrap an arm around her and say “poor baby, all those cameras make you sad?”
pr0n lesbians on Twitter? ATTENTION WHORES, HELLO! They’ll say anything to gain fame (or notoriety, depending on your point of view).
Also? yeah, her parents called the media. I guess they figured if their daughter was going to be the laughing stock of some small town she might as well get her 15 minutes (15kb) of fame.

Progress is slow….. but I think we are moving the right direction. Years ago no one would have sided (rightfully) with this poor girl. Even though the school got it wrong – at least there are now plenty of people letting them know how wrong they got it. In another five years I thinkg (and hope) we will be in a different place. Which brings me to another question: Why do heterosexual guys get so turned on by lesbians but heterosexual females dont give a hoot about gay men? This is a question for the ages.
